Swing ng Braso

Definition

Beginner tip

To develop a better arm swing, try the "baseball swing" drill. This means tee the ball at waist height and make a flat, around-the-body baseball swing. This means this develops the feeling of the arms working with body rotation. Gradually lower the tee height toward the ground, maintaining that feeling of the arms and body working together.

Advanced note

Use a meter stick or similar rigid prop held across your shoulders at address to feel the body-arm relationship. This means as you swing, the stick should stay parallel to the ground and rotate without the arms on its own lifting or pulling across. This means when the stick and the arm movement are coordinated, you have achieved the arm-body connection that efficient arm swings require.

Example

How it shows up on video

From a down-the-line camera angle, a good arm swing shows the arms tracking along the swing plane throughout the backswing and downswing. This means not drifting inside (too flat) or lifting outside (too steep). From a face-on angle, the arm swing should appear to mirror the torso rotation. This means the arms swing in the same direction and at the same speed as the body is rotating, with no independent casting, lifting, or pulling across. A passive, efficient arm swing looks smooth; an arm-dominant swing often looks tense and abrupt.

Common mistakes

  • Over-using the arms to generate power — a deliberate, muscled arm swing bypasses the kinetic chain and relies on arm strength alone. Relax the arms and let the body's rotation drive them.
  • Swinging the arms on its own of the body (disconnection). This means arms that move on their own rather than being driven by body rotation break the kinetic link and produce uneven, timing-dependent swings.
  • Pulling the arms across the body in the downswing — this is the "over-the-top" arm swing that produces out-to-in path. The arms should swing along the plane established by the backswing, not cut across it.
  • Over-restricting the arm swing by trying to "quiet the hands". This means some golfers, told to reduce hand and arm action, become. As a result, restricted that they lose arc width and club speed. The goal is passive, not frozen arms.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage observes arm swing traits from both camera angles — in particular the swing plane alignment from down-the-line and the arm-body coordination from face-on. The system identifies arm-dominant patterns (independent arm swing), across-the-body arm swing (over-the-top), and arc width through impact from face-on video. Observations are labeled by confidence based on video quality.
