Double Play Turn (Slow-Pitch)

Definition

Ang double play turn ay ang pivot footwork na ginagamit ng middle infielder sa second base para tanggapin ang tapon, hawakan ang bag, at i-release ang tapon papunta sa first sa isang tuloy-tuloy na galaw habang iniiwasan ang contact sa dumudulas na runner.

Dahil ang bat speeds at kalidad ng contact ng slow-pitch ay maaari pa ring gumawa ng matigas at maayos-ang-timing na ground balls, nananatiling tunay na defensive na sandata ang malinis na double-play turn kahit sa recreational na antas. May ilang opsyon sa footwork ang pivot fielder depende sa direksyon ng tapon at slide ng runner — pagkaladkad ng paa patawid sa bag sa inside na tapon, paghakbang patawid sa outside na tapon, o jump pivot kapag hinihila ang fielder palabas ng base nang ganap. Drill all three pivot footwork variations (drag, cross-over, jump) separately. As a result, the correct one becomes an instant, unconscious read based on where the throw actually arrives rather than a single default move used for every throw.

Why it matters

Failing to secure the catch before touching the bag, resulting in a dropped ball that voids the force out entirely
Not knowing the league's specific slide and contact rules, leading to a hesitant or overly cautious turn against an aggressive slide
