Jarak Lempar Pitcher
Before your first game at a new distance, throw 20 warm-up pitches in particular to re-calibrate your arc feel for the new rubber location.
Film yourself pitching from both 46-foot and 50-foot rubbers and compare release angle and step length — those differences are your calibration targets when switching leagues.
Example
How it shows up on video
On video, measure the rubber-to-plate distance using a known reference (base path = 65 feet in slow pitch. USSSA uses 65 or 70) and confirm it matches the stated league distance. Watch the pitcher's stride length as a proportion of the pitching distance. This means a very short stride at 50 feet often indicates poor forward momentum and arc uneven results. Reviewing total ball flight time across pitches helps batters calibrate their load timing for the specific distance.
Common mistakes
- Pitchers not adjusting release angle when moving between 46-foot and 50-foot rubbers, causing arc-height violations at the new distance
- Batters using the same load timing from a different-distance league without adjusting, arriving reliably early or late
- Coaches not confirming the official pitching distance before warm-ups, leading to a mechanical surprise on the first inning pitch
- Pitchers overcorrecting at longer distances by pushing harder rather than adjusting angle, increasing speed beyond league limits
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
SwingVantage can calibrate its arc and timing analysis to the specific pitching distance entered by the user, ensuring all angle and flight-time measurements are accurate for the league context.
