配球
Also known as: 球种选择, 比赛策略
Start every at-bat with a plan for your first two pitches based on the count context and the hitter's obvious tendencies, rather than calling pitches reactively based only on what just happened.
Build a mental "sequence card" for each hitter in the lineup before the game, based on prior scouting and what you have shown them earlier. This means then deviate from it consciously when the hitter shows you something unexpected, rather than reactively.
Example
连续投出两记高位速球后,他把一记曲球埋进了土里——打者已经蓄势待发,追打这颗球被三振出局。
How it shows up on video
Pitch sequencing effectiveness is visible in hitter reaction data across sequences. This means good sequences produce swings on pitches the hitter was not prepared for, evident in late swings, off-balance contact, or chases on out-of-zone pitches. Common errors in sequencing that show on camera include repeating the same pitch type in the same location across consecutive pitches (giving the hitter a second look at the same information), exclusively throwing off-speed in two-strike counts (a pattern advanced hitters learn and sit on). A location-only approach that ignores the movement dimension.
Common mistakes
- Defaulting to the same two-strike put-away pitch regardless of the hitter's prior swings in the at-bat. This allows experienced hitters to anticipate the sequence before the count reaches two strikes
- Repeating the same pitch type and location on consecutive pitches. This gives the hitter a second opportunity to make solid contact on a pitch they already saw and processed
- Ignoring the prior at-bat history and approaching each at-bat as a blank slate, missing the cross-inning sequencing advantage that elite pitchers exploit relentlessly
- Sequencing based only on matchup statistics without adjusting for what the specific hitter has shown in the current game. This means statistics describe tendencies, not certainties, and in-game adjustments override averages
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
SwingVantage logs pitch type, location, and hitter outcome across sequences, allowing post-session review of which sequence patterns generated swing-and-miss and which produced hard contact. The system can surface patterns — such as a consistent location that the pitcher returns to in two-strike counts — that opponents may be anticipating and exploiting.
