Practice plans & Today FAQ

How drills and the practice plan follow from your One Fix, what the Today screen shows, and how to fit practice around your week.

What is in my practice plan?

Your plan turns your One Fix into practice: a short set of drills with reps, what "doing it right" looks like and a mistake to avoid, a week laid out with practice and rest days, and a day to film the same motion again.

More detail

You meet it first in your Motion Lab report. Its Practice Plan step gives up to four drills for the fix — an immediate fix, a feel drill, a technical drill and a constraint drill — each with an easier and a harder version, and a week that builds to a day of filming a new clip.

The Plan tab then carries that fix from day to day:

  • The fix it is built around, why it matters, and how confident the read behind it is.
  • Today's next action and roughly how long it takes.
  • A week at a glance — practice days, rest days and a retest-and-compare day.
  • A daily checklist of your drills, with the setup, the reps and what "got it" looks like.
  • The retest protocol: what to record, what to keep the same, and what improvement looks like.

The plan only changes when something real changes — a new analysis, a retest result, or how consistently you have practised — not every time you open it. Its drills come from fixed rules, not a chatbot; see how drills are chosen.

How does SwingVantage choose my drills?

By fixed rules, not a chatbot. After a Motion Lab analysis, drills are tied to the weakest parts of the movement your clip showed. Elsewhere, drills are ranked by how directly they target your fix, your level, your own feedback, and safety.

More detail

From a Motion Lab analysis, each drill in the plan answers one of the weakest reads from your clip, and only drills that make sense for the motion you filmed are used — a full-swing finish drill is never handed to a putt or a dink. The immediate-fix drill always comes first, and it is the one your daily practice is built on.

When drills are ranked for your fix instead, the rules weigh:

  • Fit to the fault — a drill written for your exact issue beats one that only trains the same skill area.
  • Fit to you — difficulty matched to your level, nudged one step once you have rated a couple of drills as too easy or too hard.
  • Your history — drills you said helped rise; drills you said made it worse drop.
  • Safety — drills that load an injury you noted in your profile, or that are not suitable for a young athlete, are removed before anything is ranked.

If nothing fits your issue, you get a slow-motion rehearsal of the move, clearly marked as general. Either way, a drill match is a rule, not a measurement of your body — the retest is what shows whether it worked.

What is the Today screen?

Today is your daily coaching screen. It shows the one thing to do right now — usually practice for your fix, and at the right moment your retest or its result — so you never have to work out what comes next.

More detail

It shows one state at a time, and the first that applies wins:

  • A fresh retest result, with the next move that fits it.
  • Time to retest — once you have earned it through practice, or the date has come due.
  • Today's practice — a single "Start Practice" button for your fix, plus how many days you have practised it.
  • A starting point, if there is no fix to coach yet.

There is no yes-or-no gate before practice. If your fix is not right for today, a quiet "Work on something else?" option offers two ranked alternatives and asks why — too hard, no time, or want variety — and uses the answer to adjust what it suggests next time. Today and your practice plan always point at the same fix.

How long should I practise my fix each day?

As long as the reps stay good — typically 15 to 30 minutes, a few times a week, with rest days between. In your Motion Lab practice plan you can pick 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes and it shows the drills that fit, most important first.

More detail

When you are replacing a habit, the quality of each rep matters more than the number. Beginner prescriptions start with slow, controlled reps; higher levels add sets and speed once the feel holds. Session length grows with level, from the shorter end for beginners to the longer end for advanced players.

The plan also adjusts the load for you. It trims the week when practice time has been tight, keeps the same fix and simplifies it after a retest shows the issue is still there, and raises the challenge when you have been consistent and improving — never for a youth account.

You do not need to practise every day before checking. Once you have completed your plan on 3 separate days, Today invites a retest; otherwise it comes due on its date. See when to retest.

Can I change my practice plan or swap a drill?

Not by hand, but you can shape it: choose how much time you have, switch to a drill's easier or harder version, or tell Today you want to work on something else today. The fix itself stays until you finish that loop with a retest.

More detail
  • Time — in your Motion Lab practice plan, pick 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes and it shows only the drills that fit, most important first.
  • Difficulty — every drill in that plan lists an easier and a harder version, so you can step down or up without leaving the fix.
  • "Work on something else?" on Today — for today only. It offers two ranked alternatives and asks why; too hard or no time makes the next suggestion easier or shorter.
  • "Is it helping?" on Today — your answer is saved with the drill and counts when drills are picked for you later.

The plan also rebuilds itself when something real changes — a new analysis, a retest result, or how consistently you have practised — and it says why it looks the way it does. For why the fix itself holds still, see can my One Fix change?

Can I browse drills that are not in my plan?

Yes. With an account, the drill library lists the drills for each sport, filterable by difficulty and searchable by name or goal. Each drill opens its own page with the steps, reps, equipment and the fault it targets.

More detail

Browsing is for exploring — a secondary issue, a warm-up idea, or simply understanding what a drill is for. It does not change your One Fix or your plan; the drills in your plan are the ones matched to your current fix.

Some drill pages carry a safety note, so read it before you start. Choose a difficulty you can perform with good quality — a drill done sloppily rehearses the wrong pattern.

How do I know I have practised enough to retest?

Today tells you. Tick off your plan's daily checklist; once you have completed it on 3 separate days, Today invites an early retest. If you have not got there by the retest date, the retest comes due anyway.

More detail

When it is time, Today switches to "Time to retest" and shows what to record, what to keep the same and what improvement looks like. Film from the same spot as your original — see keeping conditions the same.

The retest readiness meter on your plan and on Progress counts days through your practice window. It is a clock, not a judgement of how ready your swing is.

Practice days count toward the plan they were done for. When you commit to a new fix, its count starts again from zero.

Can I use my practice plan alongside lessons with a coach?

Yes — it works well as the practice between lessons. Take your coach the summary from your Reports page, and if your coach asks you to work on something different, follow your coach.

More detail

Reports has a "Prep for your coach" card: a plain-English summary of your current focus, the evidence and confidence behind it, your recent trend and your next practice focus, plus questions to ask — starting with whether the issue matches what your coach sees in person. You can copy it into a message.

Your coach can watch you from every angle; one phone camera cannot. A retest under the same conditions then gives you both an honest before-and-after on the fix you practised.

What should I do if a drill feels wrong or hurts?

If it hurts, stop — do not push through pain. If it only feels awkward, slow it down and use the drill's easier version; a new movement usually feels strange at first. If it still is not working, tell the app and move to another drill in your plan.

More detail

Awkward is normal while you replace a habit. Shrink the move — slower, smaller, no ball pressure — and rebuild the feel before adding speed.

To tell the app, answer "Is it helping?" on Today with "Made it worse", or choose "Work on something else?" and pick "Too hard" so the next suggestion is easier. Your answer is saved with the drill and counts against it when drills are picked for you later.

If you have an injury or a physical limitation, note it in your profile — drills that load that area are then left out. SwingVantage does not give medical advice; see pain or injury.
