Parents, young athletes & coaches FAQ

Age rules and guardian consent, supervising young athletes, and how coaches can use SwingVantage alongside their own teaching.

Is SwingVantage safe for kids and young athletes?

Young athletes can use it with an adult involved. SwingVantage is not directed to children under 13, analysis runs on your device by default, and nothing is shared publicly. A parent or guardian should supervise practice and record consent in Settings.

More detail

For a child under 13, a parent or guardian must set up and manage the account. For ages 13–17, a parent or guardian should review how SwingVantage works and record their consent.

Features that send data off the device are more restricted for young athletes: for an athlete you have said is under 18, AI Coach and the optional AI second opinion stay locked until consent is recorded, and the optional cloud re-read needs a linked guardian.

It gives practice guidance, not medical advice, and drills should always be supervised. See what to do about pain.

Is there a minimum age to use SwingVantage?

SwingVantage is not directed to children under 13. If a child under 13 uses it, a parent or guardian must set up and manage the account and record consent, including their own email address.

More detail

Consent is recorded in Settings, under youth athlete and guardian consent. You choose the athlete’s age; the parent or guardian then adds their name and email, confirms they are the parent or legal guardian managing the account, acknowledges that SwingVantage gives practice guidance rather than medical advice, and agrees to supervise practice.

It is a self-declared consent record, not an identity check.

If you believe a child under 13 has given SwingVantage personal information without a parent or guardian involved, email privacy@swingvantage.com and it will be deleted promptly.

How can a parent delete their child’s data?

If you manage your child’s account, use the same controls as any account: Reset All Data in Settings, or delete the account from the Data Center. You can also email privacy@swingvantage.com to request access to, or deletion of, a minor’s data.

Anything made before an account existed lives only in that browser, so clearing the browser’s storage on that device removes it.

If a child under 13 gave SwingVantage information without a parent or guardian involved, email the privacy address and it will be deleted promptly.

Deleted data leaves active systems promptly; routine encrypted backups roll off within about 30 days. The step-by-step options are in deleting your data.

How should I supervise a young athlete using SwingVantage?

Be there for filming and drills, keep practice age-appropriate, and have the athlete stop anything that hurts. Supervising practice is part of what a parent or guardian agrees to when recording consent.

More detail
  • Keep only your athlete in the shot. Other people confuse the body tracking, and the terms ask you not to upload video of another child without their parent or guardian’s consent.
  • Use the optional note in the consent form to record any injury or physical limitation. It is a reminder kept with the consent record on that device; it does not change the practice plan.
  • Check what friends can see. Friends see your athlete’s profile details by default, but opening swing reports, uploading swings for them and showing their top priority and scores on a coach’s roster each stay off until they are switched on for that friend. Friends can also be blocked or reported.

Minors should train under adult supervision — the Terms of Service say the same.

Can a young athlete use the optional cloud analysis?

Only with a parent or guardian’s consent on file. The cloud re-read checks whether the athlete in the video is an adult or under 18, using the age set in Settings; a minor needs a linked guardian consent record, and if the age is unknown the cloud read cannot be used.

More detail

A parent or guardian account does not count as proof that the athlete in the video is an adult — the filmed athlete’s own age is what matters.

AI Coach and the optional AI second opinion have a similar rule: for an athlete who has said they are under 18, both stay locked until consent is recorded. Everything else in Motion Lab runs on the device and needs no extra consent.

How the cloud read itself works is explained in optional cloud analysis.

How can a coach use SwingVantage?

Two ways today: point your athletes to it for free between-lesson analysis, practice and retests, or sign in and use Coach & Team to group the Motion Lab sessions you record by athlete and follow each one’s progress. It supports your coaching; it does not replace it.

More detail

The roster you build there is yours: the athletes in it are names you add, not linked accounts, and nothing in it is shared with them. Like the rest of your data, it is saved in your browser and, while you are signed in, with your account.

To see an athlete’s own results, connect as friends. Connected athletes appear on the Coach & Team page by name, and the athlete decides what else you can see — their top priority and scores show only once they allow it. See how athletes share results.

There is no coach license or fee. Features planned for the Team plan — athlete invites and a managed roster, team-wide analytics and a white-label option — are not available yet.

How can an athlete share results with their coach?

The simplest way is the "Prep for your coach" card on the Reports page: a plain-text recap of the key evidence, recent trend, next practice focus and questions to ask. The athlete copies it and sends it however they like — no video and no account access needed.

More detail

If both have accounts and connect as friends, the athlete can also let that coach open their swing reports, upload swings on their behalf, or see their top priority and scores on the coach’s roster. Each of those is off until the athlete turns it on for that friend, and can be turned off again.

A Motion Lab report can also be saved as a PDF or downloaded — see saving a report.

What if a young athlete has pain or an injury?

Stop the drill and have the athlete checked by a qualified medical professional before continuing. SwingVantage gives practice guidance, not medical advice, and it cannot tell whether pain is serious or when it is safe to practise again.

More detail

Do not use the practice plan to work around pain. A doctor, physical therapist or athletic trainer is the right person to say which movements are appropriate and when.

The guardian consent form in Settings has an optional note for injuries or physical limitations. It is kept with the consent record on that device as a reminder; SwingVantage does not read it to adjust drills, so tell your athlete’s coach too.
