AI Coach & Ask SwingVantage FAQ

The difference between Ask SwingVantage, AI Coach, Motion Lab and this FAQ — what each one sees, how answers are produced, and their limits.

What is Ask SwingVantage?

A free question box for swing and stroke questions — faults, drills, terms and technique — answered from SwingVantage's own coaching library, with the sources shown. You do not need an account to use it.

More detail

Pick a sport, or leave it on all sports, and ask the way you would ask a coach — "what is lag?" or "how do I fix a slice?". If a word means different things in different sports, such as "serve", Ask checks which sport you mean before it answers, because a confident answer for the wrong sport is worse than a short question back.

Ask explains ideas; it does not analyse you. To find out what is happening in your own swing, run a swing check in Motion Lab.

Where do Ask's answers come from?

From SwingVantage's curated coaching library — its guides, fault and drill write-ups, glossary and FAQs. Ask finds the passages that best match your question and leads with the closest one word for word, rather than writing something new.

More detail

Each answer follows the same shape: a quick answer, why it matters, a related drill when there is one, an evidence note, the sources it drew on with links to read more, related questions, and one suggested next step.

The evidence note is plain about what kind of answer it is: curated coaching guidance is expert judgement about technique in general, not a reading of your body. Each answer is also labelled with where it came from, so a library answer is never passed off as anything else.

If the library does not cover your question, Ask says it could not find it and shows the closest matches instead of guessing.

Should I use Ask, Motion Lab, AI Coach or the FAQ?

Use Motion Lab when you want your own movement analysed, Ask when you want a swing idea explained, and this FAQ for how SwingVantage itself works. For account, billing or something broken, contact the team.

More detail
  • Motion Lab — "What is going wrong in my swing?" It reads your video and finds your main issue.
  • Ask — "What is lag?" General technique, faults, drills and terms, for any sport.
  • AI Coach — "What should I focus on this week?" A chat for signed-in athletes about their own saved results.
  • This FAQ — "How do I film a retest?" How the product works, what results mean, privacy and accounts.
  • Contact — sign-in trouble, billing questions or a bug. The Help Center has a guide to each feature.

Ask recognises account and upload problems and points you to Help rather than answering them as swing questions.

Can Ask see my swing or my results?

No. Ask cannot see your video, and it answers general questions rather than reading your results. It can explain the usual causes of a problem, but not which one is happening in your swing.

More detail

When a question is about you — "why do I keep slicing?" — Ask says exactly that before answering: it can explain common causes, but cannot tell which one is yours without evidence from your own swing. It then points you to a next step that uses your movement, such as a free swing check.

For a conversation grounded in your own saved results, signed-in athletes can use AI Coach — see what AI Coach is.

Is there a limit on what I can ask?

Each question can be up to 500 characters, and Ask sticks to sport technique, faults, drills, practice and terms. A question the library does not cover gets an honest "couldn't find this" and the closest matches, never an invented answer.

More detail

One focused question works best. A specific fault, drill or term — "fix a slice", "early extension", "lag" — finds a sharper match than a long story.

There is also a short limit on how many questions one connection can send per minute, which keeps Ask available for everyone. If you hit it, wait a moment and ask again.

Ask is not the place for account, billing or upload problems. It will point you to Help, and you can always contact us.

What is AI Coach?

AI Coach is a chat inside your account where you ask about your own game. It answers from the results you have saved for the sport you are in — your latest analysis, main issue and recent sessions — rather than giving general advice.

More detail

It needs a free account. When AI coaching is available, replies are written from a summary of your saved results. When it is not, a built-in coach composes the reply from the same results and SwingVantage's fault and drill library — a real answer either way, and the built-in coach only quotes numbers that came from your own data.

It explains and suggests; it does not change your One Fix or your practice plan. It sticks to sport and performance questions, covers the live sports only, and is not a source of medical advice. A thumbs up or down on a reply helps improve how answers are worded.

What does AI Coach know about me, and what gets shared?

It works from what you have saved for the current sport — your latest results, your last few analyses and profile basics like your first name and level. It never watches your video, and when AI coaching is available only a text summary and your question are sent.

More detail
  • Your latest result — the main issue and score, and for golf your latest launch-monitor numbers and top finding.
  • Your last few analyses — date, main issue and score — so it can talk about change over time.
  • Profile details you entered — first name, level, usual miss, goal, and details like batting side or dominant hand.
  • The coaching style you chose — beginner-friendly, parent-friendly, competitive, coach or team — so answers are pitched right.
  • A short summary of your coaching history — recurring issues and what was tried — only while personalisation is switched on in Settings.

Your video, your email and your account identifiers are not sent to the AI service; it works from results that were already computed. The privacy policy covers what each AI feature receives.

Can Ask or AI Coach change my One Fix?

No. Ask and AI Coach explain; neither one changes your One Fix or your practice plan. Your fix only moves on when you finish that loop — normally a retest that shows it has improved, then locking in your next fix.

More detail

That is deliberate. If a chat answer could swap your priority, you would end up with competing plans and no way to tell which change made a difference. A drill that Ask mentions is there to learn from, not a new assignment.

If an answer makes you doubt your fix, look at the evidence behind it and consider re-filming — see what to do if you disagree with your One Fix.

What happens if I ask about pain or an injury?

Ask puts safety first. It tells you that pain or injury needs a qualified medical professional and to stop any movement that hurts, keeps the rest to general training information, and points you to SwingVantage's medical and safety boundary.

More detail

Questions that mention pain, injury, soreness, a strain, or a joint that clicks or pops are handled this way automatically, so the answer never reads like a training plan for an injury.

SwingVantage is not a medical service and cannot assess an injury. If something hurts, stop and get it checked. The full boundary is on the accuracy and limitations page.
