Also known as: 投球落点, 内外角球
Think of inside pitches as 'hit it early' and outside pitches as 'let it travel' — your contact point changes with pitch location.
In slow-pitch, the arc gives you extra read time. This means use it to identify pitch location earlier and set up your contact point before the ball enters the hitting zone.
Example
How it shows up on video
Inside pitches require contact in front of the plate with hands working in and the hips clearing early, producing pull-side power. Outside pitches need contact deeper in the zone with hands extending through and body driving toward the opposite field, visible as later hip rotation and arm extension beyond the plate.
Common mistakes
- Pulling an outside pitch by letting the hips fly open before contact, losing opposite-field power
- Rolling over an inside pitch by failing to clear the hips in time, resulting in weak ground balls
- Using the same contact point for all pitch locations instead of adjusting depth in the zone
- Not recognizing pitch location early enough to adjust swing timing and barrel direction
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
SwingVantage tracks contact point depth relative to the plate and maps it against pitch location, revealing whether batters are adjusting correctly or using the same approach for all locations.
